You know the drill. I find the smartest, edgiest, and hopefully sexiest people I know who have the characteristics of entrepreneurship to contribute advice to The Chancebending Network. Today we’re talking Fan engagement with Rene Freling from Classic Stills

Rene talks about Fan engagement and its’ importance in Ecommerce / Tech / Entertainment

“The entertainment industry continues to look for new ways to engage fans. Fans are always looking for new ways to access content. The challenge is building a sustainable, scalable platform that can create experiences that fans will continue to engage with and can be replicated across multiple titles easily, cheaply and not just when a new title is released. Creating an app or a VR or experience to help promote a new release is great for initial marketing but it doesn’t drive sustainable engagement or generate revenue other than contributing to the marketing launch strategy. With VR adoption still being well short of original expectations and AR solutions having to be created bespoke, a mass-market tech solution to engage fans with new content, and generate revenue for the studios, remains elusive.”

A little about Rene

Rene is CEO and founder of Classic Stills, a Los Angeles-based startup that helps clients in entertainment, sports and music generate revenue from existing photographic assets.

Rene founded the company in 2017 after realizing that the Hollywood movie studios were not able to monetize their incredibly valuable photographic archives, which in some cases go back 100 years. Starting with creating collections of fine art prints from iconic movies and TV shows, Classic Stills has begun to unlock the value of this revenue for clients including Marvel, Warner Bros., Universal, Sony, HBO and the BBC, while developing new solutions to monetize some of the incredible photography that has existed for years but until now has remained hidden.

Rene has spent nearly 20 years in media and ecommerce, cutting his teeth in his native UK at one of Britain’s oldest and most iconic newspapers, The Daily Telegraph, before moving to Los Angeles to start Classic Stills. A former Senior Vice President of a global travel media group and with a background in journalism, sales and general management, Rene launched and revamped several businesses within larger corporations before becoming an entrepreneur.

Classic Stills is his second venture.
